Thanksgiving 2002 Solo Trip Report
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Working 2 full-time jobs leaves very little time for anything except sleep, so I apologize for the late posting here...but hey, better late than never!!!
To save time, I will break it down by categories and Highlights and Lowlights...( plus by now I cannot remember every minute or the exact order things happened!....I did take great notes on expenses though!)
Hotel: Going alone I went for the cheapest place I could
find, well SECOND cheapest....Westward Ho was slightly cheaper....but I went for The Plaza...4 nights on their internet site...$165 bucks! And I like downtown for gambling!
Meet:The Barbary Coast....Me, Frank and Bernie from VA.
Me and Bernie hung out after and had the Steak special
at the Gold Coast! Nice guy, and I extolled the virtures of being a Las Vegas Advisor Member. We saw Big Elvis
perform and after a few drinks, I volunteered to go up and stage...must have been funny! They dressed me up in an Elvis wig and Glasses.
Food: Thanksgiving lunch...Westward Ho Dog, and then
up the street for a Fatburger and shake! Uh...I could only
down half of the Ho Dog! Wow....given a choice I would go with Fatbuger!!!!!
Binion's Chili.....spicy and good.
Binion's Steak Special....great!
Gold Coast Steak Special....VERY good! a lot of food!
Dinner Buffet at Golden Nugget....as always...wonderful.
Golden Gate Shrimp Cocktails....still the best....Tried
Fremont's....NO comparison....GG rocks on!
4 Queens: Free Steak Dinner for earning 50 pts.
good Steak!
Transportation: Round trip on ATA....$330 from Cleveland. Several bus rides...one cab...LVL to Plaza
( the bus ) and airport shuttle out of town.
Shows: Big Elvis...and Comedy Zone or something like
that at the Plaza...2 comedians....both funnny! 13 bucks.
Gambling: Played maybe 85 per cent Video Poker...could not hit ANYthing!!!!! Just a big sucking sound out of my wallet! A LOT of VP...Craps maybe twice winning once, and losing once...BJ maybe twice......losing a little....Sports betting....football...did okay on....could have been better IF the lousy NYGiants did not blow a bit lead late and cost me TWO 3 team parlays plus a straight bet....instead of PLUS about $150 bucks PROFIT>...I lost 2 dollars! Right before I checked out Sunday ....so I would have kept that money in my pocket!
Sad to say....by biggest gambling win was win I had a free daily entry from the Plaza fun book....I finished second for the day...150 dollar winner...the ONLY slots
I played!
Hit 2 out of 4 horse race bets....just guessing there by odds....
Did pretty good on several Match Play coupons....but no big money there!
My worst trip ever gambling wise.
Expense Breakdown:
Gambling -$458.55
Souv. & Misc. -$118.66
Food - $83.44
Transportation ( In Vegas ) - $31.50
Tips -46.00
Total -$738.15
Lowlights-Elderly lady a few rows away from me
fell off her stool playing slots at Main St. Station...only the woman next to her stopped playing to hail security who called paramedics on a code 126 which I take to mean..." Player Down! "
Losing my butt at VP and everything else!
Highlights-On stage at the Meet with Big Elvis!
Just being in Vegas....still really like the Palms!!!!!
Cheap Steak Dinners!!!!
Rambling Thoughts-First day in Vegas, gambled in EVERY
Casino downtown....after the first day and a half and on my second trek up to the Strip, I said to myself, " Forget this! I am working to hard to see too much stuff in too little time!" As I usually seem to do! SO...after thinking about it...headed back downtown and stayed there for the rest of the trip and actually relaxed a little instead of running myself ragged....I like Las Vegas Club...nice
intimate atmosphere!
The Plaza is okay, but kind of dark....not bad though!
and VERY fast elevators!!!!!
