Hotel Stayed At: Luxor

Report by: Katie <>
From: LaCenter, Washington
This was my fourth trip to Las Vegas, and as always, had a fabulous time. I won this trip through my job, which included roundtrip airfare, two nights accomodations, transfers from the airport, and tickets to see "O" at the Bellagio. Since we were only staying two nights, that didn't leave much time for entertainment. My roommate was a coworker who had never been to Vegas before, so I was telling her all the things we had to try and fit into the trip. It got off to a slow start though, because the gal who was organizing everthing forgot to tell everyone where to meet for the transfer. So that left about 25 people wandering around McCarren for roughly a half hour! But once we found out where to be the group was assembled and on our way. Just pulling up to the Luxor entrance sent chills down my spine! I was so excited!!!! After getting checked in and asking for a nice view and some coupons, we found our room in the East tower with a Strip view. What is was, actually, was the very tip of MGM, but we had a nice view of the left profile of the Sphinx. Watching the little tram go back and forth all night long was kind of fun too. Our coupons were good ones, but we couldn't use a few because of time restrictions. Also, the ones for RA we couldn't use because they are closed Sundays and Mondays, the only nights we were there. We did, however, use the one for the King Tut's Museum. Two free entrances! And for as much publicity that it gets, I was quite disappointed. The actual museum part was neat, but the little headsets that we got didn't follow along with the areas we were looking at. The exit, of course, had you trail right through the gift shop!! The hotel was absolutely faboulous. So much attention to detail. The design and the artifact replicas were great. After getting dressed to go out, we had dinner in the Luxor Steakhouse. I had made reservations before the trip, so we got to our table right away. I thought the restaurant was beautiful, well-run, clean, and the staff was very friendly. My coworker and I shared a bottle of wine, and each had the watercress soup, which I HIGHLY reccomend, and the Prime Rib. I thought everything went smoothly and the food was fantastic. We got out of there just in time for the limo I had reserved a week before through Las Vegas Transportation. They are always on time, and the drivers are the nicest folks around. It was a short ride, just to the Bellagio to see the show "O". I was overwhelmed by the acrobats and the endurance of the performers. I couldn't imagine doing that twice a night five nights a week. We had the best seats possible, Orchestra level dead center. After the show, we did a bit of gambling, and I found a Titanic quarter slot machine that keep giving me enough credits to play for about two hours!!! I don't gamble big time, so when I came out with $125 I was feeling pretty good. We were planning on going to Light afterwards, but our feet hurt too much to do any dancing...so we went back to the Luxor and had drinks in the live entertainment lounge. I'll tell you what, the only great 'entertainment' was the funny looking drunk guy dancing with his beer bottle. For Las Vegas, the casually dressed band wasn't up to par. The next day was spent shopping, lounging by the pool, and having a spa day at the Oasis Spa in the Luxor. I had the Ultimate Pampering package, which had me in there for about four and a half hours. It's the only 24 hour spa in Vegas, so you can relax any time of day or night. They had the traditional spa amenities like whirlpool, sauna, and steam room. They had fresh fruit and bottled water and juices,(which I took advantage of because of the $2 price tag on the ones in the room) and the staff was exceptional. There were always clean towels, and the bathrooms and dressing areas were imaculate. The robe and sandals in my locker were a size too small for me, so they immediately retrieved replacements for my comfort. After my luxurious treatments, my coworker and I decided to try to Buffet at MGM for dinner, since the one at the Luxor got several bad reviews from some of the other people in our group. After the shocking price tag, I was relieved that the food was fantastic. They were very busy, but the staff was very efficiant in getting everyone to a table quickly. Great crab legs and shrimp, wonderful prime rib, quesadillas, pizza, fresh fruit, and a dessert bar that will make you weep. An Elvis slot maching caught my eye, so I said goodbye to the wonderful buffet and lost almost $100 in less than 10 minutes. I decided not to gamble for the rest of the trip, but you know how long those decisions last in Las Vegas!!! On my last day, I ended up doing more shopping, and getting the required cheesy souveniers for the folks back home. I was upset that three of the four monorails were closed, but the new one will be up and running by my next trip. Unfortunately the weekend had come to an end, and after taking a cab to the airport, I reluctantly said goodbye to my most favorite place in the world, and vowed to come back again.
