Las Vegas Trip Report Las Vegas Entertainers |
The wife and I have traveled together to Vegas about twice a year for the past 6 years. We've also traveled alone for various business matters and conventions. We have a pretty good idea of where we like to spend our time during our visits and wanted to make this trip one in which we get to all our favorites again. During our first visit to LV we stayed at the Golden Nugget. A great trip. So in celebration of our 20th Wedding Anniversary we headed back to downtown and the Golden Nugget. Not to bore anyone, I'll try to keep this short, outlining the highlights and few low-lights so as to hopefully help you make your trip a good one. Very uneventful flight via Allegiant Airlines out of Bellingham on Monday afternoon. New car rental system is smooth but long lines waiting for shuttle return to airport worried us. Of course it was the end of a holiday Presidents Day) so I'm sure everyone was heading home. We always rent from Dollar but that may change. Paperwork was smooth but getting car through the Dollar check point as you leave rental garage was slow and guy checking final paperwork was a Smartass. Which being a smartass myself, I can normally deal with. But after the delay we had experienced was way out of line. And his comments about the driver in front of us were uncalled for. On to the hotel where we used $20 trick to get room upgrade to North Tower (room 925). Room was very nice. Golden Nugget have the most comfortable hotel beds I've ever slept in. North Tower is supposed to be nicer then South Tower. Rooom was very big, but a little louder then normal, maybe because it was located at end of hallway near elevators. View from room was a view of a wall about two feet from the glass. Dinner at Fremont Buffet, good food-cheap price. Went to Comedy Stop at Tropicana. Three comedians. Great show, low-price with very available coupons. Over to Ellis Island for BJ and great beer. Late dinner at Terribles. Next day, morning walked around Fremont Street for gifts for kids. Later in day we were picked up by tour company for flight over dam and Grand Canyon. Pretty slow/relaxing tour. Ride back was very dis-organized but we were back at our hotel by early evening. Played that evening Downtown and North Strip. Slots of fun, had great luck at slot machine and they have good beer on tap (Blue Moon). American Superstars show at Stratisphere. Elvis good, Tim McGraw pretty good. Other impersonators okay, but Britanny Speers sure looked like she was lip-synching and we were seated right next to stage. Hungout at Hennessy Tavern downtown, good band playing. Drank alot. It's super cheap to drink downtown. Found $3 Long Isand Ice Tea and $2 Coronas. AWESOME! Next morning not feeling great. Shopping next day at outlet center at Southend of Strip. Penn & Teller that night. GREAT SHOW! Wife had spa session next day so I tooled around town. A ton of new construction going on. Lunch at Golden Gate Deli, 99 cent shrimp cocktail. Anniversary night dinner at The Groto, Golden Nugget, first rate Italion food and service with great view of new pool complex/shark tank and reasonable prices. Louie Anderson Show that evening. Very good show. Dancing later at Carnival Court at Harrah's. Great band, The Crashers. Had a ball. Drank a bit at Casino Royale, CHEAP! Flight home smooth and no lines at car rental return. It was a great trip but wish it had lasted longer. Oh well, we'll be back soon (wife already planning Apri visit to LV).
