2nd trip tp Vegas.
Stayed at the MGM. A bunch of friends from CT (my wife and I are from CT) stayed at PH. We did spend some time at PH and I thought it was cool. Clean (its refurbed) but I did like the MGM the best. I like the fact the monorail is right there and there is a lot of options in this place both eating and playing. We also go to Studio 54 and get bottle service. Its nice just going to your room after getting hammered.
Flights:
Continental From IAH
Monday the 17th 9:30am
Flight ok, packed and overbooked.
Thursday the 20th 7:10 pm
Overbooked and almost took the bump for the next trip in Oct. but you cant get your bags.
Flight left late and got back real late.
MGM:
I read a mixed reviews. I had no problem. The people were friendly, great staff. Great pool area and eating options and I didn't think it was priced badly fo what you get.
Room was a King Grand Tower on the 25th floor. Great view. Checkin at the airport was great. A bit busy but only had to wait about 10 min. Tried the $20 trick and the guy looked and looked and nothing. He gave me the $20 back. He did hook us up with the view so I gave him $10. We took one of the packages and got the $25 dining credit and RT shuttle (Executive). I read bad things about them also but it was fine. No other stops just MGM so it was quick. They run every 15-20 min.
Just remember you can't please everyone and some people bitch and complain no matter what. I did not run into anyone or hear of anyone having a problem. They were busy being spring break and the NCAA tourny.
The Grand Tower elevators are in a great spot near the lobby and half way between the monorail/spa and the sportsbook and strip entrance. There is a pit that is non smoking that had $10 and $15 tables and the pit boss said thay are priced like that all the time. Not a lot of strip walkers just guests mostly at that pit due to location.
The hotel was very clean and a great price. The package we booked was $86 a night. We are going to stay there again. The bed was the best I have ever slept in! Thick down pad and a down comf.
Food: We ate at WG pucks, Rainforest and the sushi palce. All great and worth it.
Give me the loot:
The first stop was the Planet Hollywood to meet our friends. Players card promo was a $5 match play for the sports book and $25 match play for tables and free car drawing. Took about $200 out of the BJ table and about $80 out of some of the slots. The room my budy got was redone and had a hugr TV. Other than that I doubt I would stay there. It was real nice and I would go back to play but not to stay. The room was small and if you get a back room you have no view at all. Not a lot of tables and after about 6pm good luck finding anything below $25. MGM you can always find something less.
We took some vegas vergins to Fremont on Monday (St Pats day) and got a cabbie who tried the old, Oh dear this street is closed, they must be doing construction. I said you better stop the meeter or tell me what hospital your going to! He quickly stoped it didnt turn it back on until we got to Golden Nugget. This is a scam so don't fall for it. Played at Fits for a while and ended up even. Too many people.
Played a bit at NYNY and due to the players club being the same racked up some points. I like to play at the NYNY but I would not stay there. As I have said Im from CT and can't count the number of times I have been to NY. The bathrooms in Grand Central Station are cleaner than the NYNY. For the same price you can stay at the MGM.
Went 5 for 6 at the sports book in the MGM and am waiting for the 6th tonight (I took Memphis). I like the fact you can mail in the tickets and get your money. Some books are in person only.
Craps and BJ were up and down for most of the trip and wound up about $600.
I could not for the life of me find any 9/6 JOB. I looked everywhere, 25c-$1. The only full pay machines left I could find were $5.
Genaral:
I also hear people griping about the monorail. I love it. $9 for a 24 hour pass beat taking a cab everwhere. Payed for itself over and over again. From the Grand Tower elevators in the MGM the walk was quick.
I will be staying here again the next trip in Oct. for football season. As far as I'm concerned you can't get more for your money than this place.
Here is a trick to get into your room sooner if you get there early.
They will tell you to call later to get your room number if the room is not ready. They will put a bell tag on your bag. Look at it when you get to the hotel. It has your room number on it. Your bags will be brought to the room when it is clean. We got to the MGM at about 11:30 and went to the room at 12:30 and whala! Our bags and a clean room without calling and 2:30 early. You will get your keys at check in.
