Hotel Stayed At: Bally's

Report by: Steve <hamy2@visi.com>
From: Minneapolis
First of all, thanks to everyone for posting their reports. I have been reading them for years, this will be the first one I have posted. My wife Amy and I go to Las Vegas about 6 times a year. This trip was for her 40th birthday. Our friends Tim, Beth, Amanda, Adam, and Tammy were there too.

The flight from Minneapolis on Northwest was uneventful, cab to Bally’s was good, about $14, as always we gave the driver a $20 bill.

We typically play at Paris, but for some reason get better room offers for Ballys. The rooms at Ballys are fine, they are big, and have 2 desks and a big comfortable chair. Since we had a few friends coming to town for my wife’s birthday, we got a cabana at the Ballys pool. It’s the first time we have ever got one, it was a lot of fun. It was $300, and we spent another $200 for drinks. Our hostess Britney was good, but shouldn’t have told me she was a Packer fan as she was giving me the bill. I still gave her a tip, but it would have been bigger.

We play mostly Pai Gow, BJ, Craps, Roulette, and random slots. This trip I played a lot of $100 Pai Gow with a quarter on the bonus, never hit anything big. I ended up making Diamond status at Harrahs this trip. The Total Rewards desk at Paris sent me back to talk to a host. He was such an arrogant jerk, I just got up and left while he was telling me something about why some players get more comps than others. It was a real downer after I was so excited to make Diamond.

We also play at Wynn, I really enjoy that place and seem to be lucky there. We stayed there last year with an offer and loved it. I played enough to get some free buffets so 5 of us ate there, I think it’s the best buffet in Las Vegas.

I lost $1,500 in about an hour playing Pai Gow one day at Paris. I thought I was going to throw up in my mouth. Then a slot machine made me feel a little better with a $500 win. Nothing else to report, some wins, some losses, the usual.

We went to Joe’s Stone Crab for Amy’s birthday dinner. Joe’s is our favorite resturant in Las Vegas the host, Thomas is always so nice to us. If you haven’t been there, just give it a try.

We saw the Blue Man show at the Venetian with Tammy. We really like this show. It’s actually the 4th time we have seen them over the years. We enjoyed this show as much as the others. There have been a few changes. I noticed the stage is more hi-tech than last time we saw them. With the volume of children at Blue Man, we decided that topless shows might be a better choice for the future.

I’m always surprised when dealers/cocktail waitresses/bellmen in Las Vegas remember us by name. Dealers Buzz and Veronica at Paris both said hi to me by name as I was walking by their tables when we first got there. I actually got a kiss from Marlo, our favorite cocktail waitress! With the volume of people they see…well, I know I couldn’t do that.

Overall it was a great trip, I’m already looking forward to the next one in August.
