Hotel Stayed At: Orleans

Report by: arejbee <>

Being from the Midwest, any excuse to get away to a warmer climate is always high on the list of things to do.

My wife and I stayed at the Orleans. We had stayed at this hotel twice in the past. The most recent stay was a couple of years ago and we talked on the way home after that visit about how "tired" the hotel looked.

Not so this time. The entire casino area has been recarpeted and there was a brighter and cleaner feel to this area of the hotel.

Upon arrival at the rental car garage, my Dollar Express card allowed us to bypass the rental counter where 40 or so travelers stood in line. Get a "frequent flyer" card from any of the car rental companies. It is usually free and gets you on your way fast.
We were delighted when the option of a convertible was presented without an increase in cost.

Upon arriving at the Orleans, check-in was painless and very quick. We noticed that the coupons offered were not as valuable as the last time we stayed here.

Since our visit coinsided with Super Bowl Sunday, we expected huge crowds. The hotel did a great job of offering several places to watch the game. As you might imagine, the places were packed and the traffic throughout the hotel was significant during and after the game.

Our room was fine. The carpet was a little "well-worn" in places, but the room was clean inviting. The bathroom area could have used some more light. We did have one issue involving housekeeping on the second day of the stay. After being in and out of the room several times the room had not been serviced at 6:30 p.m. A quick call to the housekeeping department took care of the problem immediately. When we returned 30 minutes later, everything was great.

One suggestion would be for the Don Miguel Cantina to live up to its advertising (in the hotel) that happy hour runs from 3-5 each afternoon. One day there was no one to be found in the cantina and no drinks being served. We couldn't find anyone who knew anything about the happy hour offers of cheap drinks and eats.

We would definitely stay at the Orleans again. The difficulties were few and were addressed quickly and completely by staff.

This is not the Bellagio, but the hotel is a very nice alternative to the strip hotels at a very reasonable price.
